Telegram Has 1 Billion Downloads

Earlier this year, WhatsApp introduced a new privacy policy that misleads users. As a result, many users began to look for alternative messaging platforms that would offer more privacy, and Telegram was one of them. The company had previously said it saw 25 million new users registered in 72 hours at the height of the controversy.

Now, according to the latest figures, it seems that Telegram has finally managed to download 1 billion. This means that it will take some time to hit these numbers, according to Sensor Tower, which claims that Telegram was able to reach this stage after its launch in 2013.

It’s not clear whether WhatsApp’s controversial privacy policy has helped Telegram’s user base grow, or whether the app will eventually be able to access it, but it’s a real success. However, as noted by TechCrunch, the number of installations does not necessarily mean that the active users of the application may be different.

It is clear that Telegram (and other applications such as Signal) have benefited from WhatsApp’s attention because users have decided that they can download and install the application. At the same time, it was previously reported that WhatsApp’s privacy policy could lose millions of users.
